LONDON FIRE SAFETY
Penalties for Not Having a Fire Risk Assessment
Fire safety enforcement depends on the breach and risk. Purchasing a report alone does not resolve every legal duty.

What enforcement can involve
Enforcing authorities can require improvements and, where appropriate, restrict or prohibit the use of premises. Serious breaches that expose people to the risk of death or serious injury can result in prosecution. Failure to comply with statutory notices is also an offence.
Depending on the offence and court, penalties can include an unlimited fine and imprisonment of up to two years. There is no single automatic fine that describes every missing or inadequate FRA.
A report is the beginning of action
A suitable assessment needs to be recorded and reviewed. The Responsible Person must maintain appropriate precautions and act on relevant findings. A document that is ignored or no longer reflects the premises is not a reliable compliance strategy.
If an enforcement deadline or prohibition applies, obtain appropriate specialist advice promptly. Do not assume booking an assessment removes a restriction.
Read the official guidance
See GOV.UK enforcement and sanctions guidance. For an assessment enquiry, provide the premises details and any relevant notice or deadline so the scope can be discussed.
